Project description_
Latrofa 1959 is a historic clothing store located in Monteverde Vecchio district, Rome. In 2004 it underwent a radical project of renovation and transformation of the interior spaces, furniture and facade, to renew the previous renovation dated ’70s.
The project is organized on 3 floors with a total of approximately 400sqm. 190sqm located on the ground floor are dedicated to women’s clothing, 120sqm on the first are dedicated to menswear and remaining 95sqm in the basement the back of the house with store and also an are part dedicated to the sale and warehouse.
The shop, before our renovation, was strongly affected by the presence of a connecting staircase located in the middle of the shop. That affected negatively all flow distribution, reducing the space for the showcase and wardrobe. To improve the distribution it was important to separate customer’s flows from the service one. Accordingly we decided to replace and reorganize the big unique storage, originally located in the basement floor, to simplify the flow, to avoid confusion and to provide more functional space for sell and customers.
As per above purpose, the main staircase, made of black iron sheet, has been moved to an off-center point of the store and several small stores located in all the floors were designed to reduce the number of items displaced and to create a cleaner space simpler to be crossed. Special custom made furniture was designed as tables used at the same time as exhibition space and storages.
With the aim of having a single central free space we located all the hangers along the perimetric wall and behind the showcases. Aforementioned hangers are made of rectangular steel tube and steel and wooden shelves. In the main central space we located a custom made tables with the top made of glass and coated with black iron sheet ,used for exhibition of accessories and storage of some leaders. The paving is made of IPE wood.
The exterior facade has been completely renovated with a coating of travertine slabs with insertion of iron and crystal exhibitors, to follow the Roman tradition and the general appeal of the district in which is placed.
