Project description_
The site on which will be built the new Auditorium and Art Centre (Ayça) of Las Torres de Cotillas is part of the complex of the Shopping and Business Center Los Carmenes, that occupy the northwest corner of the aforementioned plot.
During the preliminary studies we soon realized that budget and the maximum buildable area were both insufficient to achieve the required program as: auditorium with 800 seats, the dressing rooms ancillary spaces, rehearsal rooms, back of house and the underground car park of 4,000 square meters.
To overcome this obvious deficiency we has decided to provide in addition to the new auditorium and art center, a feasible management program related to all those areas left empty and abandoned : the idea was to activate a complex that could be used 12 month per year actively related with all the future activities and events, with the aim to support budget’s deficiencies.
Moreover our main design intent was simplify the construction system to avoid economic waste, but at the same time the aim was to provide a simple building but extremely functional. The project’ heart is an hard-scape square dedicated to outdoor events – exhibitions , Sunday markets, that becomes an indoor space entering in the mail large foyer. The Lobby is covered by a lightweight flexible and modular roof, and surrounded by a openable glazed facade that create a space that could be indoor either outdoor as well in which exhibition halls, small concert halls, conference rooms are displaced.
It is an extremely flexible space and transformed according to the different needs of the sliding through acoustic panels.
