Project description_
The penthouse is located in a building of the ’30s located in the San Lorenzo district in Rome. As per Client’s request, the intervention was aimed to transform a typical apartment located in a popular district in Rome, originally divided into a series of small rooms connected by a corridor, as into a classic New York-style loft. The Loft ,thanks to the bearing walls structure, is completely free of pillars and consists of only two spaces: a large main space, where the free stand steel kitchen , the living and dining spaces are placed, and another area , the private one, where the bedroom and the study room are located. One of the main walls of the building, 80 cm thick, divide the above two areas. The design intent was to emphasize the presence of aforementioned pre-existent wall, and we decided to finish it with a special rough plaster painted in purple color.
Three raw steel shelves, designed with a C shape, are displaced on the purple wall, and they work as the library home used. To satisfy the Client’s need to have a completely private space that include the bedroom, the studio and a personal bathroom and wardrobe as well, we decided to design and to build a natural wooden Cube that enclose all the required functions, streamlining the most of available space and leaving as free as possible home space.
On the top side of the Cube – which is accessed by a stainless steel staircase painted in white – it was leaning a futon thus solving the sleeping area. Inside the Cube wardrobe ,a small bathroom with custom made sink and a shower , and a small laundry are displaced. Paving is finished with a sheets of penolic plywood painted in light gray resin.
